Oslo, April 28: A 23-year-old Norwegian woman was sentenced to nine months in prison after she was convicted of raping a man.
The Bergen district court also ordered the woman, whose name was withheld, to pay 40,000 kroner (USD 6,400) in compensation to the man yesterday in what the Norwegian news media said was the first case of its kind in Norway.
According to court testimony, the January 2004 sexual assault took place when the 31-year-old man, whose name was also withheld, felt asleep on a couch in the apartment the woman shared with her boyfriend.
In court, he testified that he woke up because the woman was performing oral sex on him. The woman at first denied any sexual contact, but later changed her story, admitting contact but claimed it was consensual.
The court said a legal amendment from 2000 defines such undesired sexual contact as rape, and it was being punished as such.
The man said the incident left him with insomnia, virtually no interest in sex. He also described it as a breach of trust between friends that crushed his faith in people. i wouldn't mind though =p
The woman left court without comment, but her attorney, Per Magne Kristiansen, told the Norwegian news agency NTB that an appeal was likely.

Oslo, Aug 17 Reuters - A Norwegian man is accusing a dolphin of attempted rape.
Norway's top-selling daily Verdens Gang on Tuesday quoted the 28-year-old as saying that the dolphin apparently mistook him for a female after swimming alongside him in the sea off Farsund, south Norway, earlier this month.
The dolphin's penis got caught between the man's swimming costume and his legs before the man, who declined to give his name, managed to clamber back on board his boat.
"The dolphin shoved me forward two or three metres before I got loose,'' he said. "At first I thought it was a fin...but dolphins don't have fins on their underbellies.''
A friend of the man, a diving instructor who saw the attack, told Verdens Gang that the dolphin "tried it on with me too, but I was wearing protection -- a wetsuit''.
